Wife of Zimbabwe’s president Robert Mugabe has declared her intention to succeed her husband by calling out Mr. Mugabe and asking him to let her take over his post.

Grace Mugabe told a church gathering in Harare that she is very ready to take over from her 93 year old husband as leader of the Southern African country.

“I say to Mr Mugabe you should … leave me to take over your post,” Grace said in an address to the gathering at a stadium in Harare.

She said her husband should have “no fear. If you want to give me the job give it to me freely.”

There is growing tension within the Zanu PF party as the Mugabe clash with Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa who was considered the possible successor to President Mugabe.

Mr. Mugabe on Saturday signaled his preparedness to sack his deputy vice president who he accuses of fueling factionalism ahead of a party special congress in December.

Leading members of the Zanu-PF party hope to discuss the ways of dealing with the perceived factionalism within the party as call for a successor to President Mugabe heightens.

The Youth of Zimbabwe’s ruling party the Zanu-PF last month said it wanted President Mugabe to die in office.

Mugabe, led his southern African country to independence in 1980 from British colonial rule and has since been president of the country.

His party selected him as its presidential candidate for the next general election.
