The parliament of South Africa on Wednesday cut ties with renowned accountancy firm KPMG, by ending its contract with the company.
KPMG has been involved in a controversial and scandalous link with the Guptas who are business friends of the country’s President Jacob Zuma.
According to Reuters news agency the South African parliament said it was worried about the risks involved with its continuous relationship with KPMG following the scandal.
The parliament said “this termination includes a contract KPMG has with a medical aid scheme for Members of Parliament.”
Last week KPMG in a statement said its South African chief executive, chairman and six top partners had resigned
“KPMG International has conducted a comprehensive investigation. While the investigation did not identify any evidence of illegal behaviour or corruption by KPMG partners or staff, this investigation did find work that fell considerably short of KPMG’s standards. Based on the results of this investigation, significant actions have been taken.” the statement said
The Guptas have been a point of controversy in South Africa as they face allegations of illegally influencing government contracts.
KPMG is to donate the $3 million it earned in fees from Gupta-controlled firms to charity.
