Police in Kenya’s capital Nairobi on Tuesday fired tear gas to disperse rioting demonstrators from the opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) who gathered outside the country’s electoral commission building.
The NASA supporters have been staging demonstrations across the country to get some officials within the Kenya Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to resign over the August 8 presidential election.

Daily Nation reported that the opposition party supporters are demanding the resignation of the commission’s top officials, including Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba.
They have accused Mr Chiloba and others of plotting to rig the presidential election which was nullified by the Supreme Court. The re-run poll is scheduled to take place on October 26.
The demonstrators held placards and banners that read “ Chilona must go”, others read “no reforms no elections” yet another said “IEBC must go.”
The opposition leader Raila Odinga has called for reforms and changes at the electoral commission before fresh elections are held. The incumbent President, Uhuru Kenyatta has rejected those demands and said the poll will come on as planned.
The Director of Public Prosecutions in Kenya Keriako Tobiko has asked the police and anti-corruption agency to investigate all electoral officials and stakeholders that participated in the elections with possibility of charging individuals who might have played a role in the identified irregularities.
