The first lady of Zimbabwean Grace Mugabe has made her first public comment since returning to the country from South Africa where she was accused of assaulting a 20-year old model in a Johannesburg hotel.

Mrs. Mugabe who secured a diplomatic immunity to avoid prosecution in her statement urged young men to treat women with respect.

The Herald Newspaper reported that Zimbabwe has high rape cases and the first lady of the country is hoping to encourage men to stop abusing women.

Mrs. Mugabe told journalists during her tour of a health facility in Harare on Friday that there was the need to inculcate a culture of respect for women among young men.

“You are not just respecting your mother alone, but other women as well. When you see a woman anywhere, you should think about your mother, sister or your wife,” she said.

The first lady was also quoted as saying that rape “is something you do not want to happen to your relative…,”

The young South African model Gabriella Engels who Mrs. Mugabe allegedly assaulted has not given up hope on ensuring that she faces prosecution.

Engels was allegedly assaulted by Mrs. Mugabe for partying with her sons, Robert jnr and Bellarmine Chatunga, who students in South Africa.

They young men are known for notoriety and lavish lifestyles.
