Police in Kenya have arrested a man who allegedly murdered his 26-year-old date she met on Facebook, the Daily Nation reports.

The suspect, Richard Nyakina, was arrested in Kisii on Friday after he disclosed the exact place he committed the crime.

Nyakina met the victim, Lydia Nyaboke on Facebook months ago and agreed to meet face-to-face on July 23 in Nairobi.

Nyakoke’s brother Japhet Mogeni is reported by local media to have said that his sister and the suspect “kept communicating for some time before they decided to meet,”

After the July 23 meeting between the suspect and the victim, Ms Nyaboke’s phone went off prompting her family to launch a search for her.

A police spokesperson with Kenya’s Special Crimes Prevention Unit, Noah Katumo said “We arrested him (Suspect) in Gucha, Kisii, and he confessed to have killed the lady.”

The suspect is quoted by the police as saying that he hit the victim on the head, suffocated her and used her clothes to strangle her.
