About 70 Senegalese nationals arrested in Banjul for not having proper documentation have been expelled from The Gambia, according to the BBC Afrique.
Gambia’s immigration director, Buba Sanyang is reported to have ordered the expulsions. According to the same BBC Afrique report, those expelled were not given the chance to appeal. Expel
A Gambian government source was reported to have said that the expulsions were not in conformity to the immigration policy of the current President Adama Barrow who enjoyed much support from Senegal shortly before taking over as the leader of the country.
This development is however coming days after a major meeting between interior ministers of the two West African nations Dakar, Senegal.
The talks were aimed at finding an effective strategy towards tackling cross-border crimes. It is yet to be seen if this latest development could dent the cordial relations between the two countries.
President Adama Barrow first took his oath of office in Dakar, Senegal when former President, Yahya Jammeh refused to hand over power peacefully.
Senegal was part of other ECOWAS countries that sent troops to force out Mr. Jammeh who is now in exile in Equatorial Guinea.
