The President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma on Sunday said that he was poisoned and nearly lost his life due to his stance on land reforms and economic policies in his country.
Mr. Zuma told supporters of the ruling African National Congress that “I was poisoned and almost died just because South Africa joined Brics (the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa business communities) under my leadership, they said I was going to destroy the country,”
The South African president claimed to have become a target after calling for radical economic transformation citing a total of three attempts to kill him.

According to local media Mr. Zuma in his speech failed to mention names of individuals who attempted killing him but said they were people close to him.
Mr. Zuma last week survived another vote of no-confidence which was taken in secret by Members of Parliament.
That was the eighth attempt to get him out of office over allegations of corruption. Some 30 ANC MPs however voted for the President to be removed.

Some members of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) are reported to have threatened to fish out those ANC MPs who voted in favour of a motion to get President Jacob Zuma out of office.
