The opposition leader in Kenya, Raila Odinga has expressed his disappointment in claims by international election observers that the Kenyan elections were conducted in a credible way.
The flagbearer of the National Super Alliance (NASA) has rejected election results published so far by the Kenyan election commission, claiming the system of transmission of results was flawed.
The coalition said its own vote tallying system shows that it’s candidate had won the elections and demanded that Mr. Odinga be declared winner of the presidential election immediately.
Mr. Odinga told CNN on Thursday that the observers focused only on voting and tallying but not the transmission of the results.
“I think that the observers have not helped Kenyans resolve this dispute, they have confounded it by giving basically an approval to a fairly flawed process…and therefore I am very disappointed” he said.
Mr Odinga however said his party is not looking forward to violence and continues to appeal to supporters to remain calm.
“We know the consequences of 2007 and we do not want to see a repeat of that anymore,” he said.
International observers have said voting was largely peaceful and called for lawful settlement of disputes arising from the elections.
