Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta is projected to be leading in the presidential election votes counted so far from 85 percent of polling stations.
On Wednesday the election commission displayed on its website, results showing Kenyatta with 54.8 percent of the vote against 44.3 percent for opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The margin between the two candidates is nearly 1.4 million votes.
Meanwhile the opposition coalition has rejected the results displayed so far by the commission challenging its validity.
Opposition leader, Raila Odinga said the results “are fictitious, they are fake. We have our projections from our agents which show we are ahead by far.”
However the electoral commission is asking Kenyans to patiently wait for full results.
The commission said “During this critical phase, we urge all Kenyans to exercise restraint as we await official results from the polling stations and indeed as they start trickling in.”
In 2007 violence broke out when election results were disputed resulting in over 1,100 Kenyans dying and 600,000 getting displaced.
