Five Nigerian soldiers have been killed in a suicide bomb attack in northeastern Nigeria. Another 40 sustained injuries in an attack carried out by Boko Haram when a truck packed with explosives run into a military convoy.
Nigerian officials told the AFP that the bomber targeted the military convoy, which was conducting “clearance operations” between Yobe and Borno states.
One of the soldiers who spoke to AFP said “At about 1100 hours (1000 GMT) on Thursday, a suicide bomber believed to be a Boko Haram terrorist riding in a van loaded with explosives rammed into a military convoy at Manguzum village.”
Another soldier also told the AFP “We lost five soldiers in the incident and more than 40 sustained various degrees of injuries.”
The convoy that was attacked was heading to Borno at the time of the attack. “The armoured tank was seriously damaged and the operation slowed down,” one soldier said.
Boko Haram militants continue to launch series of attacks in Nigeria despite claims by the government that its military is winning the battle to defeat the group.
