The protesters want Mr. Zuma to step down ahead of a debate on a motion of no-confidence in the South African Parliament on April 18.

These agitations are coming days after the sacking of Pravin Gordhan as finance minister in a recent cabinet reshuffle.

Mmusi Maimane, leader of the main opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) party is leading the march in Johannesburg.
The embattled President however has the backing of his party, the African National Congress. The ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe on Wednesday said the ruling party would not take part in moves to remove President Zuma.
He said ANC has accepted the “breakdown of the relationship” between Zuma and former finance minister Pravin Gordhan.
Three cabinet ministers removed by President Jacob Zuma in the cabinet reshuffle have quit as lawmakers of his African National Congress party ahead of a vote of the no-confidence in the president which the ANC has vowed to defeat.
