Local media in Ghana are reporting that the head of the country’s central bank, Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku has resigned from his post. His resignation will now take effective from April 1, 2017.
State-run newspaper Daily Graphic said Dr. Issahaku cited personal reasons for his decision to quit less than a year into his four year tenure.
He was appointed by former President John Mahama who lost presidential elections last year.
Dr. Issahaku was reported not to be actively involved in meetings of the economic management team of the new government. He is perceived by members of the government of having an allegiance to the previous government.
Some analysts also believe he may have resigned due to recent brouhaha over mobile money integration contract he supervised.
There are indications the government will soon announce a replacement for the post. Two people namely Co-Founder of Databank Keli Gadzekpo and Former Director of Research at the Bank of Ghana, Ernest Addison are being named as possible replacement.
