16: 18 GMT: In sports, Angola football federation announced that it has appointed Brazil’s Roberto Bianchi as their new coach.
The 50-year-old, who has previously worked in Jordan, Spain, Montenegro and Indonesia replaces Jose Kilamba, who had been coaching Angola since 2015.
Bianchi, the fourth Brazilian to coach Angola, has been coach of Angolan club Petro de Luanda since last year.
“We have a huge challenge to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations,” Bianchi said.
14: 40 GMT: The UN has said that three mass graves have been discovered in central Democratic Republic of Congo, where hundreds have been killed since July in clashes between security forces and a local militia.
The top U.N. rights official said at least 400 people have died and 200,000 have been displaced since the fighting broke out with the Kamuina Nsapu militia. Police killed its leader, Kamuina Nsapu, last August, causing the violence to swiftly escalate.
U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein urged the U.N. human rights council in Geneva to set up an inquiry “in light of recurrent reports of grave violations and the recent discovery of three more mass graves”.
14: 22 GMT: For news from around the world, more than 30 people have been killed after attackers dressed as doctors stormed the largest military hospital in Kabul, Afghan officials say.
Militants armed with guns and grenades gained entry after one detonated explosives at a hospital gate and then opened fire on staff and patients.
Commandos who landed on the Sardar Daud hospital roof killed all four attackers after several hours of fighting.
The so-called Islamic State (IS) group has claimed the attack.
12: 49 GMT: A Moroccan lawmaker has been shot and killed in front of his home on Tuesday night in Casablanca, according to a statement from his political party and local media.
The victim, Abdellatif Mirdas, 53, parliamentary member of the liberal Constitutional Union Party representing the Settat district, was returning to his home in Casablanca when he was shot in his car, according to reports in local media.
The party said in a statement:
“The Constitutional Union denounces this despicable criminal act against one of our leaders”
12: 40 GMT: Cyclone Enawo, a massive tropical storm packing winds gusting as high as 300 km per hour, killed at least three people when it slammed into the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar, officials said on Wednesday.
Enawo struck the northeast village of Ampahana on Tuesday morning. Rivo Randrianarison, the head of the local weather service said it was one of the country’s worst storms in recent years. He said on national radio
Enawo is of the same intensity as those which have wreaked havoc like Indlala in 2007, Ivan in 2008, Gafilo in 2004 or Giovanna in 2012
12: 09 GMT: The UN’s top rights official has called for a high-level investigation into abuses committed against civilians in the violence-wracked Democratic Republic of Congo following the discovery of mass graves.
Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein however praised the DR Congo government for quickly investigating the killings and other severe human rights violations in the isolated Kasai and Lomani provinces, but said a UN probe was also needed.
Zeid told the UN Human Rights Council :
“I commend the swift action taken by the government to begin processes of investigation and accountability in some of the alleged killings attributed to soldiers, and offer the assistance of my office,”
11: 49 GMT: The BBC Afrique is reporting that the mayor of the Senegalese capital, Dakar, has been placed in custody over alleged fraud. Khalifa Sall has been charged with embezzling $2.85m in city funds.
The mayor denies any wrongdoing. His lawyers described the arrest as politically motivated, saying in a statement:
This arrest and detention is only to stop Khalifa Sall in his political ambitions.”
11: 15 GMT: South African officials are to appear at the International Criminal Court on April 7 over the country’s failure to arrest Sudan President Omar Hassan al-Bashir during a visit two years ago.
Pretoria announced its intention to leave the ICC in 2015 after the Hague-based court criticized it for disregarding an order to arrest Al-Bashir, who is accused of genocide and war crimes. Bashir has denied the accusations.
10: 30 GMT: President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya has accused the striking doctors in Kenya of employing ‘blackmail’ in talks being brokered by the Religious Council of Kenya.
He said he was committed to a fair resolution to the impasse, but the doctors were not as they continue to remain on strike.
‘‘Fairness to you as doctors cannot come at the expense of fairness to other Kenyans. Your duty is to serve all, to protect and to care for all” he said.
09: 35 GMT: The International Organization for Migration has said that Fighting between rival people-smuggling gangs on Libya’s Mediterranean coast has killed 22 people.
IOM spokesman Joel Millman said the dead were thought to be migrants rather than smugglers because they were sub-Saharan Africans. More than 100 people were wounded, he told a news briefing in Geneva, citing information from colleagues in Libya.
09: 10 GMT: Zimbabwe’s President, Robert Mugabe was in Ghana for the country’s 60th anniversary celebrations which took place on March 6.
On Tuesday he held a press conference in Accra and told journalists that he considers the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as the best African leader ever.
09: 00 GMT: Lesotho’s king is reported to have dissolved parliament and set to announce a date for fresh election. This is coming days after Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili lost a confidence vote in the assembly.
Mosisili, for the past two years while in office has seen his support base weakened by defections from his ruling coalition to the opposition. He voted out as prime minister but remains for now in a caretaker capacity.
“We are here to announce that His Majesty has accepted the prime minister’s advice to dissolve parliament and the nation will be updated on an election date within four days,” Deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsing told state radio.
08: 50 GMT: In Business, Africa’s biggest mobile phone operator MTN Group has announced that Mteto Nyati, the chief executive of its South African unit, will be resigning this Month and will be replaced by Godfrey Motsa. Motsa is currently a vice president of the South and East Africa region at MTN Group, and has more than 10 years of experience in the mobile telecoms industry.

08: 42 GMT: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday spoke with President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.
The East African reported that the White House said that the US leader sought to “reaffirm the strong bilateral relationship between our two countries.”
07: 52 GMT: The BBC is reporting that armed robbers posed as police to carry out a robbery at Johannesburg international airport in South Africa.
The robbers drove to a restricted zone and took containers of cash running into millions of dollars in different currencies.
07: 34 GMT: Bayern Munich of Germany beat Arsenal of England 5-1 on Tuesday in the Champions League to qualify to the quarter finals on 10-2 aggregate.
Arsenal were attempting an unlikely comeback after losing by the same scoreline in Munich last month. They made a good start when Theo Walcott scored after 20 minutes but broke down thereafter.

07: 12 GMT: South Africa has formally revoked its withdrawal from the International Criminal Court. The country’s High Court blocked the government’s bid to pull out of the court.
Reuters reported that a document posted on the U.N. treaties website indicated that South Africa notified U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that because of the High Court decision, “the Instrument of Withdrawal was found to be unconstitutional and invalid.
In order to adhere to last month’s court judgment – which ruled South Africa’s parliament needed to approve the country’s withdrawal from the ICC – the planned pull-out would be revoked “with immediate effect,” according to the March 7 U.N. document.
