Police in South Africa have arrested a 31-year-old man over the murder of Tshegofatso Pule, a 28-year old pregnant woman.

Pule’s body was found stabbed and hanging by a tree in Roodepoort last week, an incident that sparked outrage in South Africa.

She was stabbed in the nipple of her left breast, according to police when the body was discovered.

Pule was last been seen when she left her home in Meadowlands, Soweto, to visit her boyfriend.

A relative told The Sowetan that Pule called the family and said she had had an argument with her boyfriend, who then called a taxi for her.

A funeral for her was attended by leaders of political parties, including the EFF and ANC government officials.

Police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza told reporters that the suspect was arrested on Monday on his way from Mpumalanga.

Police intend processing him for court on Wednesday in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court and then make his identity public.

Colonel Noxolo Kweza said “We wouldn’t have done this without the cooperation of the community for which we are very grateful. We are also appealing to the media to give us space to make sure that our case doesn’t fall apart.”
