US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that he is “terminating” his country’s relationship with the World Health Organization.
In April Trump instructed his administration to halt funding to the World Health Organization (WHO).
He accused the global health body of promoting what he calls China’s “disinformation” about the coronavirus.
President Trump said the WHO failed in its duties and its cover up for China was likely to led to a wider outbreak.
On Friday President Trump told reporters that he is terminating US ties with the WHO “Because they have failed to make the requested and greatly needed reforms.”
He said “we will today be terminating our relationship with the World Health Organization and redirecting those funds to other worldwide and deserving urgent global public health needs.”
“China’s cover-up of the Wuhan virus allowed the disease to spread all over the world,” he added.

When Trump cut funding to the WHO last month the African Union at the time condemned the decision.
U.S politicians have in the past led a campaign as well against the boss of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus hoping to have him removed from office.
But many African leaders came to the defence of Tedros, warning the US against such a campaign at this time of a global crisis.
