Three persons were killed during clashes between two tribes in Sudan’s eastern city of Kassala.
79 others were also left wounded in the clashes which occurred on Friday, according to the state’s acting governor.
Although the cause of the clashes are still unknown, the governor said the violence took place between members of the Beni Amer and Nuba ethnic groups.
Brigade Mahmoud Baker Homd said in a statement that tensions have been there between the two groups in the past but got reignited on Thursday.
By Friday the tension escalated with houses set ablaze during the clashes.
Violence between the Beni Amer and Nuba was reported in Port Sudan in January this year.
Reuters reported that a local doctors’ group said at the time that eight people were killed and dozens injured.
In 2019 the two groups made peace though after Sudan’s top military commander, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, threatened to expel them from Sudan.
