Londy Ngcobo referred to as the “The BLACKMERMAID” is Africa’s First Female Dredge Master, with expertise in ship Navigation.
As a global ship navigator, Ngcobo has over 13 years of experience in the Maritime industry.
Her maritime studies first started at high school in Durban, South Africa and then at the Durban University of Technology.
Londy after these studies was accepted into a Cadetship Programme by leading container shipping company Maersk Group.
She later qualified as a Deck Officer, which allowed her to serve on board all sized vessels sailing on international waters.
In 2011 she qualified for her second licence as a Master on Port Operations vessels, becoming Africa’s first female dredge master.
This role requires that she works on dredgers, ships that remove sediments and debris from the bottom of lakes, rivers, harbours, and other water bodies.
Londy’s background includes Maritime Studies, International Merchant shipping experience, Advanced dredging from the Netherlands IHC.
Currently she serves as Maritime Compliance Manager for Transnet National Ports Authority, Founder of Global Maritime Youth and Chief Executive of Womaritime Experts, a consulting firm in the shipping industry.
Beyond her career in the Maritime industry, Londy is also passionate about women and youth empowerment.
Her experience has equipped her with the ability to focus on providing sustainable tools for women to thrive and her zest for life encourages the youth to think outside the box.
She has also delivered motivational speeches on a TEDx Talk, Forbes Women Africa, and various media platforms Londy, impacting so many lives.
