Kenya’s National Police College has been closed indefinitely after a trainee tested positive for coronavirus.
All officers at the college in Kiganjo, Nyeri County have now been ordered to self-quarantine for 14 days.
The police service in a circular reported by local media asked for officers undergoing advanced training to be picked up.
“It has now been directed that officers who came from the same institution recently be put under quarantine,” the circular reads.
It added that police officers returning from the college “should not mix with the other officers. Ensure this directive is adhered to.”
Fears are high that many officers might have been exposed to the infection, if not already infected.
The officer in question was taken for testing after showing flu-like symptoms.
Local media reported that many officers who returned to their stations from the training school reportedly fell ill, all with suspected symptoms of coronavirus.
These officers have spoken of developing their flu-like symptoms while still at the training college.
Kenya has so far confirmed 184 cases of coronavirus with seven deaths and 12 recoveries.
The country is on a lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus.
