Ghana has announced an extension to the lockdown in two major cities, Accra and Kumasi by another one week to stop the spread of coronavirus.
The current lockdown will end on Sunday but with the extension, citizens are expected to stay further at home for another week.
The country’s President, Nana Akufo Addo on Thursday made the announcement asking Ghanaians to be patient in this moment of crisis.
Ghana has recorded 378 cases of coronavirus as at April 9, 2020 and is one of the leading countries in West Africa with more cases.
Akufo Addo said extending the lockdown in these two cities would help health officials to buy some time to combat the spread.
The President also said more intervention programs including absorbing part of electricity bills of citizens will be implemented.
The government is already absorbing the water bills of citizens for the next three months.
