With Sao Tome and Principe becoming the 52nd African country to record cases of the COVID-19, the continent now has only two countries without the virus.

As at April 6, Sao Tome and Principe was with Lesotho and Comoros as the three countries without the virus.

But on Monday the island nation confirmed its first case with the patient returning from Gabon.

Sao Tome and Principe has since then added three more cases and now has four confirmed coronavirus cases.

Lesotho and Comoros are now the two countries still without a case of coronavirus.

Out of the 52 countries reporting of infection, 39 countries report of local community infections with 13 countries reporting of only imported cases.

The continent has recorded 487 deaths so far with recoveries now at 913. South Africa still remains the leading country with 1686 cases of coronavirus.

North Africa has the highest number of cases, tallying at 4,485 with Algeria leading with more cases in that region.

North, West and Southern Africa regions have all recorded over 1,000 cases of the virus.

Africa has so far recorded 913 recoveries from the deadly coronavirus as at April 7, 2020 out of some 10,000 cases.

North Africa leads with 437 recoveries followed closely by West Africa with 348 recoveries as at April 7, 2020.

These two sub-regions are the only ones with over 100 recoveries with the rest of the continent recording less than 100 recoveries each.
