Sierra Leone has announced a three-day nationwide lockdown to deal with the spread of the coronavirus.

The country has recorded two cases of the virus just within two days with the latest being a medical doctor with no known links to the index case.

The first case was that of a 37-year-old man who came to the country with Air Brussels on 16 March. He was reported to be in isolation.

Sierra Leone’s defence minister who is in charge of the country’s Covid-19 Coordination, Brig (Rtd) Kellie Conteh told reporters that the country will be on a lockdown on Sunday, Monday & Tuesday.

He asked citizens to stay-at-home on these days to help stop the spread of the virus.

Across Africa, many countries have imposed a curfew or lockdowns lasting 21 days.

Africa has so far recorded over 5,700 cases of the coronavirus with deaths close to 200 across 49 countries.

Globally, over 700,000 people have been infected with deaths hitting over 30,000.
