Kenya’s Covid-19 survivors have been speaking out about the virus and how they recovered.

Their identities were made public for the first time after they recovered and held a live video call with Kenya’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Brenda and Brian who were among Kenya’s first cases urged Kenyans during their live chat to take the virus seriously and seek treatment early.

According to health officials, Brenda and Brian are the first and third patients to have recovered from the virus in Kenya.

Brenda who said she has fully recovered after 23 days of treatment told reporters that she suspected that she contracted the coronavirus on her flight back to Kenya from London in early March.

“I had a cough three days into landing in the country,” Benda said adding that “[Covid-19] is something that can be managed and it is treatable.”

Brian, the other recovered patient who claimed he contracted the virus after interacting with Brenda, said his experience made his relatives believe that the disease “is real and treatable”.

Kenya has confirmed 81 Covid-19 cases and restrictions have been enforced to stop the spread of the virus.
