Zimbabwe has announced a total lockdown for 21 days beginning Monday 30 March to deal with the spread of the coronavirus.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa made the announcement on Friday as the country moves quickly to prevent potential surge in cases.
He said security agencies would be deployed and essential civil servants the only people allowed free movement.
Public transports would also be suspended except public service buses.
This week the Zimbabwean journalist, Zororo Makamba died of Coronavirus after it was revealed he was isolated in terrible conditions.
Makamba had no water and proper lavatory facilities and resorted to using a bucket as a toilet.
He also kept telling friends and family members that he was alone and scared and health staff refused to help him.
Zimbabwe’s Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo confirmed the death of the journalist on Monday.
Zororo Makamba, 30 years of age was the second person to test positive for Covid-19 after travelling to the US.
He was diagnosed with coronavirus on Saturday, but his condition deteriorated rapidly, according to reports.
His death is the first in Zimbabwe as the country steps up its effort to contain the spread of the virus.
