A Kenyan man has died after some young people attacked him and beat him up for allegedly catching coronavirus in south-eastern part of the country.

The man died hours later in the hospital, according to the police who said he was first ridiculed by the youth.

The police chief for the village of Msambweni in Kwale county, Nehemiah Bitok has told local media that investigations were under way to arrest suspects.

“No arrests have been made but we have launched investigations,” Bitok told the media.

Daily Nation newspaper reported that the man was attacked on his way home on Tuesday evening after going out drinking.

Bitok said “While heading home, he met a group of youths who attacked him, accusing him of suffering from coronavirus”.

Kenya on Wednesday confirmed three more coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of cases in that country to seven so far.

The East African country has banned public gatherings and imposed some travel restrictions on travelers from high risk countries.

Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has said that “Any Kenyan travelling into the country must sign a legal form to assure the government that you will self-quarantine”.

Meanwhile Kenya is getting $60 million from the World Bank to help it battle the coronavirus outbreak.

The World Bank said the funding will improve surveillance, laboratory services, isolation units, equipment, supplies and communication to help mitigate the virus in Kenya.
