Equatorial Guinea has donated $2m in aid to China to help the Asian giant fight the current coronavirus outbreak.
The decision, according to Equatorial Guinea’s President was made at a cabinet meeting this week.
The African nation said the move is to show “support and solidarity” to one of its key trading partners.
China boasts the world’s second-biggest economy after the US, and has a GDP of $13.6tr compared to Equatorial Guinea’s $13.4bn.
Equatorial Guinea is Africa’s third-biggest oil producer, but more than half the population lives below the poverty line.
Coronavirus has claimed more than 500 lives in China and almost 100 outside of China. Thousands of cases have been recorded across the world.
The World Health Organization has already declared Coronavirus a global emergency as outbreak continues to spread outside China.
Although African countries have reported of suspected cases, none tested positive yet.
Last month some African airlines suspended flights to China due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
RwandAir, Air Madagascar, Air Mauritus and Royal Air Maroc have all announced a suspension of flights to mainland China.
The inability of health officials in China and beyond to find an immediate solution to contain the spread has sparked concerns
Victims often suffer from respiratory illness and this new strain of coronavirus was not previously identified in humans.
