An international conference on drone technology has opened in Rwanda’s capital Kigali.
The event is being attended by hundreds of participants from 44 countries around the world.
According to organizers, the event is providing the platform for the showcase of the potential uses for drone technology.
The three-day event is bringing together civilian drone operators and policy regulators to discuss ways of utilizing the drone technology.
The organisers – African Drone Forum are hoping the would encourage more African countries to adopt the technology.
The African Drone Forum is also looking at regulation that does not inhibit the development of the sector while boosting cooperation among countries and the sharing of best practices.
The event is the brainchild of a partnership between the Rwandan government and the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Representatives of drone companies say partnerships and investors are among the things they expect from the forum.
Already countries like Rwanda and Ghana are using the drone technology to deliver blood and other essential medical supplies to health facilities.
In other parts of the continent, farmers are now using drone technology to spray their farms and survey farm lands.
