Thousands of Ghanaians have hit the streets to kick against the decision of the county’s Electoral Commission to compile a new voter’s register.
Tuesday’s protest in the city of Kumasi was the second in a series organized by a group called Inter Party Resistance against new voter’s register.
The protesters are demanding that the Electoral Commission aborts the plan to compile the new register.
The group comprising the opposition NDC and some other opposition political parties argue that the EC does not need a new register for the December 2020.
The group also insists a new register is a waste of money and could also create tension.

National Communication Officer of the NDC Sammy Gyamfi told journalists that there will be more protests until the EC rescinds its decision.
“The voice of the people is the voice of God and that is what will prevail regardless of what Bossman Asare and Jean Mensah does, the will of the people will prevail relative to the issue of the compilation of a new voters register.
Gradually people are beginning to appreciate the issue and we are satisfied with the attendance of today’s demonstration”.

Contrary to the position of the disgruntled parties the EC said a new voters’ register will save the country $30 million (GH¢173million) if it compiles a new register.
The commission said the country will benefit more from a new register in terms of cost as well as well as enhanced features.
But these claims have been rejected by some eighteen Civil Society Organizations as the country prepares for general elections due in Ghana on December 7.
