Damage to undersea internet cables have caused major disruption to internet services across Africa.

Internet users in countries like Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Cameroon and Ivory Coast among others have complained about having problems accessing the internet.

The damaged cables connect countries in the western coast and were destroyed this week.

The affected cables are the WACS and SAT3/WASC cable systems which are in the Atlantic Ocean and connect South Africa and many other African countries to Europe.

According to reports one of the damages occurred near Libreville, the Gabonese capital.

The other damage to the cable happened around Angola’s capital, Luanda.

MTN Group Ltd., Africa’s biggest telecommunications provider has apologized to customers in some countries for slow Internet speeds.

The disruption has affected many businesses that depend on the internet to operate.
