The Supreme Court in Guinea-Bissau on Sunday rejected a challenge against the country’s presidential election result.
Last year, former prime minister, Umaro Cissoko Embalo was declared winner after a presidential election run-off.
Embalo won the run-off election with 54% of the vote but his defeated opponent, Domingos Simoes Pereira complained of fraud.
He challenged the election result at the Supreme court but the court has ruled that Pereira and his party should have first filed their complaint with the national electoral commission.
Meanwhile the electoral commission said the claims of an electoral fraud in the run-off poll are untrue.
In the first round of voting last year, Domingos Simoes Pereira came first with 40% and while Umaro Cissoko Embalo came second with 28%.
Mr Embalo, nicknamed “The General”, served as prime minister between 2016 and 2018.
Guinea Bissau has experienced nine coups or attempted coups since independence from Portugal in 1974.
In 2012 there was a military takeover and should Vaz completes his term, he will be the first president to do so.
Mr Vaz, 62, has been in office since 2014 after a tight presidential contest that he won in a run-off.
