The President of Tanzania, John Magufuli has revealed that “being a president is a very daunting task which I did not expect when I was handled the position.”

Magufuli told his party supporters that “honestly speaking am very tired of this task” of being a President as he promises not to seek third term in office.

President Magufuli is currently serving his first 5-year term and is likely to run for a second term which will end in 2025.

There have been calls for him to extend that to a third term beyond a likely second term but Magufuli has rejected that.

On Thursday he said “Our party CCM is like an industry which produces capable leaders, and as such I will not have any reason to stand for the presidency after the end of my tenure.”

John Magufuli also told members of the CCM’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Central Committee in Mwanza that “I have no plans of extending my tenure since this will be against the constitution of my party and Tanzania as a country. I should be clear that this position is very tough and sacrifice for one to handle.”

The controversial Tanzanian leader came into office in 2015 and says his ruling party has many potential members who could take up the mantle of leadership when he is gone.

“It is through the same means which were used to appoint me as the candidate of CCM presidential candidate in 2015 that will be used for my successor who will even be better than me. The Lord has plans for everything. His plans never fail,” he said.
