Boko Haram militants launched an attack on a Chadian village on Tuesday killing fourteen people as local officials report of 13 others missing.
A government official, Imouya Souabebe told AFP that “There were 14 dead, five wounded and 13 missing in the attack” near the village of Kaiga on the shores of Lake Chad.
Kaiga is located between the borders of four countries, namely Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria and Nigeria.
“We know that there are always Boko Haram elements moving around the (border) area, so they are behind this attack,” Souabebe said.
“The attackers first came in a small group and then brought in reinforcements to attack the fishermen.”
Chad is part of other countries within the Lake Chad Basin that continues to suffer from Boko Haram attacks.
Boko Haram launched its armed insurgency in northeastern Nigeria killing over 35,000 people and forcing many to flee their homes.
When violence spread to Chad, Cameroon and Niger a regional military coalition to fight the jihadists was formed.
Leaders of countries within the Lake Chad Basin vowed to push for the quick implementation of the Regional Stabilisation Strategy in the areas affected by the Boko Haram crisis.
