Global tech giant, Microsoft Corp has said it will be investing $100 million on new technology development centres in Kenya and Nigeria.

The investment over the next five years, according to the company require the hiring of over 100 engineers to work in these new facilities in the two countries.

The aim of these cnetres wil be to customize Microsoft applications for the African market.

There will also be room for the development of new applications for Africa as well.

The company said in a statement that “In addition, it is an opportunity to collaborate with partners, academia, governments and developers, driving impact and innovation in sectors important to the continent.”

Microsoft already has six development hubs located elsewhere in the world.

The new development hub in Africa will help the company grow some of its businesses including Office, Azure and Windows.

Many tech giants such as Google and Facebook are also expanding the operations in Africa which is becoming a vibrant market for them.

Microsoft is already investing in Africa with projects meant to provide digital skills and opportunities to young people.
