A 51-year-old South African pastor, Keith Bird has been jailed up to 50 years for rape and murder.

The pastor from Mitchells Plain in Cape Town was behind a three-year crime spree which left two women dead.

News24 reports that Bird was sentenced in the Western Cape High Court “after he entered a plea and sentencing agreement with the state.”

Pastor Bird had admitted guilt to 14 charges, ranging from rape to murder in court during his trial.

Details of the agreement he entered into with the state revealed how he killed his ex-fiancée An-Niesa Bardien, 36.

The pastor committed the crime six years ago after the deceased decided not to go ahead with their engagement.

He admitted to strangling his ex until she lost consciousnesses and “crushed her head” several times with a rock.

“My direct intention was to kill [her],” he admitted. Bardien decomposing body was discovered buried in a shallow grave 10 days later, on January 18, 2013.

Months after this murder he also raped and strangled a 20 year old woman, Sharvonne Koense on May 18, 2013.

Pastor Bird only met Koense at a party but succeeded in luring her into a bush to rape and strangle her to death.

Prosecutors say Bird committed several other rapes and murders between 2013 and 2016, admitting to those crimes in his agreement with the state.
