Nigeria’s commercial capital of Lagos has recorded another building collapse just barely five days after more than ten people died in a similar incident.
Local media in Nigeria is reporting that four people have been rescued from the building collapse on Lagos Island.
Punch reports that the building that collapsed this time was a three-storeyed building. Many are feared trapped inside the wreckage.
The Newspaper quotes the Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasaki Musbau as saying that “Information from our men on the ground at the scene showed that it was a partial collapse.”
He adds that rescuers “have removed four persons trapped in the building. They were all rescued alive. They have been taken to the hospital for treatment as I speak.”
Just last week, a building with residential blocks and other apartments including a school collapsed.
Many people were trapped in the building with at least ten people reported to have died in the disaster.
Most of those rescued with injuries were school children. That building collapsed in the Ita-faji area of Lagos island.
Officials said that four-storey building was supposed to have been demolished before it’s collapse last week.
This is not the first time Nigeria is recording a major building collapse.
In 2016, over 100 people were killed in a church building collapse in southeastern part of the country.
