Parliamentary workers in Nigeria are to begin a four-day strike on Monday as they push for better working conditions.
The workers are part of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN). They took the decision on Friday to embark on the strike after series of agitations.
The strike could however disrupt parliamentary activities in Nigeria on Wednesday, the day, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to be in the national assembly.
The Nigerian leader is to present the 2019 Appropriation bill to the joint national assembly on Wednesday.
The Chairman of the association, Bature Mohammed, in a statement said the strike would run till December 20.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that leaders of the association have warned members to stay away from work during the four day period.
Workers demand
The workers are pushing for a new condition of service for members. They also want promotion and payment of 28 per cent increment in salary contained in the 2018 budget.
The aggrieved workers on December, 4 disrupted activities of the national assembly by staging a protest over unpaid salaries and allowances.
They even prevented lawmakers from accessing the chamber. The workers accused the leadership of the parliament of ignoring their demands.
