A brother of former Burkina Faso President, Blaise Campaore is to be extradited to the West African nation to face prosecution.
Francois Compaore was arrested and detained by police in France at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris in October.
His arrest follows an international arrest warrant in connection with the 1998 murder of the publisher of Burkina Faso’s Independent newspaper, Norbert Zongo.
Zongo was killed while investigating the murder of a driver who worked for Francois Compaore.
His death sparked agitations during Blaise Compaore’s 27-year rule with him eventually exiting power in 2014 through an uprising.
On Wednesday, a Paris court of appeal approved an extradition request by Burkina Faso’s government.
The Burkinabe government wanted Francois Compaore brought back to face justice.
Meanwhile lawyer for Francois Compaore Pierre-Olivier Sur said the charges against his client are politically motivated.
Francois’ brother Blaise following his overthrow in 2014 fled to neighbouring Ivory Coast.
The Ivorian government has refused to approve his extradition back to Burkina Faso to face trial.
There is however an international arrest warrant for him in connection with the 1987 murder of former president Thomas Sankara.
