Ghana is experiencing erratic power supply in recent weeks. For weeks now power consumers had to endure outages for several hours across the country.
Ghana four years ago experienced a major power crisis which led to the collapse of thousands of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises.
Hundreds of businesses had to lay off their staff in response to the energy crisis which was called ‘Dumsor’ in the Ghanaian local parlance.
Ghana’s Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu has told Journalists in Accra that the country is only battling with supply of adequate gas from the West African Gas pipeline.
The gas pipeline supplies gas to Ghana’s power producing plants to generate electricity.
The minister has assured Ghanaians that efforts are being taken to address the challenge which he says is partly technical and partly financial.
Mr Amewu said “the current situation being experienced is (Dumsor) on intermittent outage as compared to (Dumkuraa) Total Power outage experienced under the previous government”.
Angry reactions
On social media many Ghanaians expressed frustration and anger, calling for resolution of the emerging crisis.

It’s safe to say #Dumsor (I hate that word by the way) is back.

It is not clear when the crisis will be resolved or whether it could further worsen in the coming days.
