A man pronounced dead in Ethiopia shocked mourners when he turned out to be alive inside a coffin.
Relations of the man Hirpha Negero from a village in the Sibu Sire district in the central Oromia region have been celebrating his reported ‘resurrection’.
The father of five, according to local media was pronounced dead on Tuesday Morning.
A traditional ritual of a gun being shot twice to mark his passing was carried out inviting villagers for his funeral.
Mr. Hirpha was placed in a coffin by village undertakers and was ready to be buried Tuesday afternoon when mourners heard a knock inside the coffin.
One of the Etana Kena’a told the BBC that ‘‘People were shocked and ran away, I couldn’t get anyone to help me.”
He said “I have buried more than 50 or 60 bodies. I have never anything seen like this before. He seemed to be dead.”
Mr Hirpha himself told the BBC that while in the coffin he “heard someone crying. I was suffocating and trying to tear away the shroud. I was so weak, unable to speak out.”
Hirpha said he started calling asking “is there anybody around?”
Mr Hirpha also revealed that he had visions while unconscious and saw “a beautiful green place” and a man dressed in white told him to “go back”.
Villagers despite initially being in a state of shock started celebrating.
Some doctors believe the ‘resurrected’ man may have been in a “deep comma” and not dead.
In July this year a man in Ethiopia was arrested for failing to resurrect a dead man. The man who claims to be a prophet tried reviving the dead body by lying on top of him.
