Ethiopian officials have said that three students were killed during violence at a University.
The violence occurred at the Assosa University in Benishangule Gumuz regional state.
Ethiopia’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education confirmed the deaths which happened on Wednesday.
Ethiopia’s minister of science and higher education, Dr Hirut Woldemariam said some 34 people were also injured in the violence.
State broadcaster FANA reports that the government blamed the deaths on the incitement of ethnic-based violence.
Woldemariam according to FANA says there are some individuals behind the violence aimed at derailing “the ongoing reform”.
She said the aim is to “disrupt the teaching-learning process and incite ethnic-based violence in higher educational institutes”.
Fighting in parts of Ethiopia since July has displaced over 200,000 people, aid group Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) says.
Those displaced according to the NRC have fled into camps. Ethiopian officials are struggling to control ethnic conflict on the border of Ethiopia’s Oromia and Somali regions
