Nine school children have been killed in a fire outbreak in a school in South-western Uganda.
Police on Monday said the children died in the fire allegedly set by pupils in their school and dormitory.
Spokesman for the police Emilio Kayima told dpa that those believed to have carried out the attack were expelled from the school recently.
According to officials the suspected arson attack occurred in a school called the Saint Bernard Secondary School in Rakai district.
Local media reports that some of the children that sustained injuries were rushed to a hospital in the nearby town of Rakai.
Another police official Patrick Onyango told Reuters the dormitory that was attacked housed about 130 students.
Onyango is quoted as saying that the suspects “came back between midnight and 1 a.m. (local time Monday) and set the school ablaze”.
“Our investigation is along that line because that is what we suspect happened,” Onyango said.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
