Ethiopian police have uncovered a mass grave with some 200 people. Officials said the grave was uncovered in an area between the country’s Oromia and Somali regions.

According to state broadcaster Fana police are now investigating the discovery. It said on Thursday that police’s investigation is being backed by a court-order.

Investigation will now focus on alleged abuses by forces loyal to the former president of the Somali region, Abdi Mohammed.

Mohammed was arrested months ago after violence broke out in the Somali region when his forces clashed with state security.

He is now in detention. Ethiopian police now have 4 days to unearth and do forensic examinations on the found 200 bodies.

There have been several ethnic clashes around the Somali region. The clashes are believed to have been carried out by an unofficial militia known as the Liyu.

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed has been rolling out reforms since taking over power. Those reforms are towards ending the several violence clashes in the country.

In an efforts to restore peace to most restive regions of the country, he created a new peace ministry. The ministry is to being headed by a woman as well.
