Pirates are reported to have hijacked a ship with 11 crew members of the coast of Nigeria.
Polish media reports that eight of the crew members kidnapped are from Poland.
The vessel’s management firm said the pirates attacked the MV Pomerania Sky bound for the Nigerian port of Onne.
The attack and kidnapping occurred on Saturday, according to Midocean (IOM) Ltd which make the confirmation via a statement on Sunday.
The statement said the company’s “priority is securing the earliest release of the eleven crew who have been taken and we are working closely with our partners and the local authorities to achieve that.”
“The families of those crew members taken are being kept informed of the situation,” the company further said.
Such abductions are common in Nigeria where pirates demand for ransom before releasing victims.
In some instances when ransom are not paid on time, victims are killed by abductors.
