A joint border post between Ghana and Togo has been commissioned. The commissioning on Friday was done by Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The Noepe-Akanu joint border post according to President Akufo-Addo should help promote movement of people and goods between the two nations.

Local media reports that post could also further strengthen the bonds of friendship and co-operation between Ghana and Togo.

Akufo-Addo said Ghana believes the joint border post “is in our economic interest for this project to succeed.

With hard work, creativity and enterprise, it should create sufficient opportunities to enhance the prosperity of our people.”

The border facility was constructed with the support of the ECOWAS Commission and European Union.

Joy FM reports that the post is fitted with weighbridges, baggage and pedestrian scanners, and state-of-the-art ICT equipment.

There will be joint inspections and sharing of intelligence along the border as a result of this new facility.

Ghana and Togo have citizens frequently crossing over to both sides of the border for social and business activities.
