More than 10 people are reported to have died following an attack on a night club in South Sudan.

Dozens others have also sustained injuries in the attack. Police say it was as a result of a hand grenade exploding in the night club.

The incident occurred in South Sudan’s western town of Yambio on Friday.

Reuters reports that six persons who sustained injuries have been in critical condition requiring further medical treatment.

A senior police officer is quoted by Reuters as saying on Monday that someone threw “a hand grenade into a club where 500 people were dancing…we found four people dead on (the) spot”.

Police say the incident is isolated from the country’s civil war which has latest for years.

South Sudan is hoping to have an end to the civil war after President Salva Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar signed a peace deal recently.

The new deal is to provide for five vice presidents for South Sudan and protect a power sharing arrangement. There have been renewed fighting after the peace deal was signed.
