The Nigeria Labour Congress has announced a suspension to its seven-day strike over national minimum wage.
The union has not been happy with negotiations with government officials at a tripartite committee level. It begun the strike last week.
Local media reports that labour union said the suspension of the strike took effect on Sunday.
It has asked its affiliate unions and state councils to maintain “a high level of mobilisation and readiness until the struggle for a reasonable minimum wage is achieved.”
The government has promised to reconvene the tripartite committee on national minimum wage on Thursday.
NLC President, Ayuba Wabba told reporters on Sunday that “we have received a firm and formal invitation to a reconvened meeting of the tripartite committee scheduled.
“We demand that this shall be the final session of the committee.”
He said “organised labour has, after obtaining the mandate of their necessary organs, decided to suspend the strike action with effect from Sunday, September 30, 2018.”
Most workers are expected to resume work on Tuesday following the suspension of the strike.
Trade unions are demanding a minimum wage of around $137 against the current wage of $49.
