The tension between Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho has been simmering for months, and now it appears to have finally boiled over.
On Wednesday, following the shock League Cup defeat on penalties to Derby County at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, the French star and his manager exchanged stern words with each other as the midfielder made his way on to the Carrington pitch.
In video footage released by Sky Sports News in the UK on their Twitter account, Pogba appeared to be in good spirits as he greeted Michael Carrick.
But then, as he shook hands with one of the team management members, Mourinho said something, which caused Pogba to turn around and look angrily at the Portuguese mentor.
With other players such as Marcus Rashford in the vicinity, Pogba gestured, as if to say “What have I done?” and again mouthed something to Mourinho.

The latest clash between the two figures comes after Mourinho stated that he had removed Pogba as the “second captain” at the club behind Antonio Valencia.
But he insisted in comments after the Derby County game that it was not due to any rift between the two.
“The only truth is I made the decision of Paul not to be the second captain anymore. I am the manager I make these decisions, no fall out at all, no problem at all,” Mourinho said.
“The same person who takes the decision to make him second captain makes this decision now.”
On Monday, Pogba tried to downplay the issues with Mourinho, tweeting: “Some people make polemic even from “good morning” to create drama. Big Pogoodmorning everyone hope u get it twisted”
