Outspoken Ugandan opposition politician Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine returned home on Thursday amid police escort.

He was met on arrival at the country’s main airport but was escorted by police to his home in a convoy.

Bobi Wine was returning home from the US where he had gone to for medical treatment after sustaining injuries while in custody.

The pop star turned MP was taken ill after his arrest and detention last month. He was arrested and detained for allegedly playing a role in an attack on the country’s President, Yoweri Museveni.

Museveni’s convoy was reportedly attacked while returning from a campaign rally last month. After spending days in detention, Bobi Wine’s lawyers said he was tortured rendering him seriously sick.

He told reporters during his return to Uganda that he was not happy with the police decision to escort him home. “We must get our freedom or we will die trying,” he said.

Bobi Wine was however welcomed at the airport by hundreds of his supporters.
