Sudan says its police officials have rescued some 85 minors from human traffickers.
The minors are part of about 100 people who were rescued after police broke-up a human trafficking network in Sudan’s northeast.
The rescue efforts took place last month, according to the international policing agency (Interpol).
Those arrested for the trafficking activities include two men and twelve women.
The operation for the arrest of the suspect took place at several locations in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.
Interpol says the trafficking networks kidnapped migrants demanding ransoms.
Some of the victims unable to pay off their ransom are then forced to work.
The victims including some as young as 10, came from African countries like Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea and Niger.
Tim Morris who is director of police services for Interpol, based in France said: “The diversity of nationalities amongst those rescued shows how human trafficking and people smuggling is a truly transnational problem which requires a coordinated international response.”
