Four people have been killed in an attack on Libya’s National Oil Corporation’s (NOC) headquarters in Tripoli.
The attack carried out on Monday, according to security officials led to the death of two workers of Libyan state oil firm and two gunmen.
10 others are reported injured in the attack by masked gunmen.
Reuters quotes a spokesman for the Special Deterrence Force (Rada) force, Ahmad Ben Salim as saying that “The death toll so far is two killed from NOC staff and two attackers.”
Libya’s Special Deterrence Force in Tripoli say they have had to engage in a gun battle with the attackers. No group has taken responsibility for the attack yet.
Some workers were evacuated safely with firefighters smashing windows to enable them to flee.
Interior Minister of Libya’s UN-backed government Briadier General Abdul-Salam Ashour, says the attack was carried out by six gunmen.
There was a recent clash between armed groups in Libya resulting in the death of at least 61 people. There was a peace deal to end the violence since last week.
Since Libya’s former leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown and killed, Libya has been in chaos without a unified ruling class.
