Kenyan security officials on Wednesday raided the offices of the China owned TV station, the China Global Television Network in Nairobi.
The immigration officers were carrying out the operation in an ongoing crackdown on illegal immigrants.
The armed security officers stormed the CGTN building, bundling foreigners who are illegally operating in the country.
Local media outlet Citizen Digital reports that an employee said “the officers paralysed operations and ordered them not to move as they combed the building floor to floor.”
All foreigners in the building were reportedly asked to verify their nationality documents and work permits.
Kenya’s Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has in recent days ordered the deportation of foreigners working without proper documentation.
“If you have a job, or you have applied for a job to come to Kenya and work in a regional branch of an international company, you apply for a work permit from where you are,” said Matiang’i is quoted by local media as saying
Several foreigners in some hotels have been deported as part of the crackdown after they failed to proof their documentation. They had entered the country as tourists but were working without a permit.
